Salad dressing

The labels on the stuff I use to make my own aren’t
that informative, but instead of buying salad dressing,
I make my own now. It’s much cheaper, and I’ve found
it’s also more beneficial to my bs levels. (that’s
blood sugar, by the way, not the other type of "bs"!) :)
I start with 4 ounces of pure white vinegar.
Using the spice grinder Italian seasoning mix,
I grind in the spices to taste, into the vinegar,
and let it sit for half an hour IN the vinegar.
I like a lot of spice in it.

I then pour 6 ounces of virgin olive oil into an old
wine bottle, along with 1 oz. of dry, red wine.

Add the spiced vinegar, cork it, shake it violently.

One thing I found out for me, and YMMV, is that by
getting 2 oz. of white vinegar into my system with
a meal, I can cut my postprandial test results
by up to 30 points! (Depending on what else I eat
with it.) Sometimes I make just a meal of a huge
chef salad alone.

That, and I just hate spending what they want for
salad dressing!

So if you like Italian dressing, do try this and
save some $.

It’s also good for cutting stomach acid production,
I’ve found, at least for me. I’m not nearly as
gassy and burpy afterwards as I was.

    Hi Brian,

This recipe is right up my alley. Just need to check, do you mean the little
foil packets of Italian Salad dressing such as Good Seasons (I think) makes? Or
are you referring to something else?

My favorite dressing is red wine vinaigrette, but I would probably use red wine
vinegar instead as I don’t like red wine by itself. Any ideas on whether that
    would work?

    Thanks, Dianne

I get the Italian spices in a glass bottle with the
grinder top, like you find sea salt and pepper in.
That’s what I use. I have never used the Good Seasons
mixes. I have also never tried red wine vinegar. I
keep a large stock of red wine itself, so I just toss
in an oz. of that in the mix!

As far as the other working, as you asked, well, the
only way to find out is to try it!
The worst that can happen, if you know you can
tolerate it, is that you’ll have to dump it out.

I’ve never seen Italian spices come this way, but now I know they exist, I will
look for them. Do you know who makes the grinder top version?

I wish I liked red wine, it’s supposed to be very healthful. Perhaps I can
    learn??

Brian, I agree with you about the importance of vinegar to counteract high
blood sugars, but I personally have read more about using apple cider
vinegar for health or red wine vinegar to counteract cholesterol. Do you
use other types of vinegars as well? I also use malt vinegar with my fish,
but that is just for taste.
